Piazza della Calza, 6 – Florence

The venue of the 8th Psychoanalysis and Art Symposium is unique for its atmosphere, art and history:

the Convitto della Calza, located in the heart of the city, combines the fascination of a Medieval cloister and halls frescoed with masterpieces such as Francibigio’s Last Supper, with very modern meeting facilities and hotel rooms.

The ancient 14th-century Hospital dedicated to Saint John the Baptist is today one of the most charming destinations among Florence hotels and a fully equipped conference center, with 7 meeting rooms. The Jesuit friars who lived here used to wear a strip of cloth on their left shoulder similar to a stocking (calza), hence the venue’s name.

The Convitto della Calza is located in the characteristic area of Oltrarno, very close to the Boboli Garden, Pitti Palace and the Ponte Vecchio, in a truly strategic position: easily reachable from both the motorway and the Santa Maria Novella train station. From the Santa Maria Novella train station (which is also the terminal for the Florence Airport shuttle) it takes only a few minutes by bus to get to the venue.

Less than a 10-minute walk from the Convitto della Calza, participants will have a chance to visit some of the most beautiful masterpieces of the Florentine history of the art: the church of Santo Spirito, by Brunelleschi, and the frescoes by Masaccio and Masolino in the Brancacci Chapel, located in the church of the S. Maria del Carmine.
